Title III, Part A, EL & Immigrant & ESOL
English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is a state-funded instructional program for eligible English Learners (ELs) in grades K-12. The ESOL program is a standards-based curriculum emphasizing academic and social language development. ESOL coursework is based upon the WIDA language proficiency standards. Classroom teachers integrate these standards with the Georgia content area standards to enable English learners to both communicate in English and demonstrate their academic, social, and cultural proficiency.
Title III is a federally-funded program that provides eligible Local Education Agencies with funding to supplement those ESOL services already in place. Upon attainment of English language proficiency, students exit from supplemental language services.
The Title III, EL grants supports the Dawson County English classes for our families. Please contact Dr. Denise Reynolds for more information. Classes are held on Mondays, from 6:00-7:30PM throughout the year.
Eligibility for Language Support Services
The Georgia Department of Education provides the criteria to determine eligibility for language support services. This criterion includes the student's native, home, and first language as one other than English. Additionally, students who have difficulty listening, speaking, reading, writing, or understanding the English language to the extent that their language skills are a barrier to their success in a regular classroom will be eligible for language services.
Title III, Part A, Immigrant
Title III, Part A Immigrant funds are determined year to year based on the eligibility formula established by the state. Criteria for immigrant eligibility status for students include being born in another place other than the United States or Puerto Rico, having completed less than three full academic years in U.S. schools, and being between the ages of 3-21.
